  • It's all about creating cocktails using the science of molecular gastrononmy.
  • Head-turning creations from foams to caviar & spaghetti cocktails
  • Try a Molecubox - drink creations designed for you - based on your favourite cocktails!
  • HTB has its own team of award-winning 'molecular mixologists' headed up by award winning Michael Stringer
  • Stand out with drink experiences your guests don't just enjoy, but experience!

                                                      MOLECULAB

Using the science behind molecular gastronomy, our professors will turn ordinary everyday cocktails into amazing eye-catching edible creations like you've never seen before!

Our Moleculab can operate in either of the following ways:

enjoy tasty, mouthwatering and intriguing cocktails made right in front of you!

                                                                     or

an interactive lab where guests can get involved in making their own molecular cocktails

What is a Moleculab?

Our specialist molecular mixology team here at Hire The Barman will turn any event space into a ‘Molecular Laboratory’ - complete with mad scientists, interactive cocktail making for guests and a laboratory theming including props ranging from bubbling test tubes to smoking petri dishes.

We will supply you with the professors, all the ingredients and equipment required and also laboratory props to theme the area within your event.

For extra theatre and activity, you can add another of our professors with a special ‘fly-bar’ to walk around your venue serving our fantastic creations.

What kind of things can I expect?

Caviar Pearls
Little spheres which burst full of flavour once you bite into them. We can tailor the caviar service to be made more interactive with your guests giving the process a try and creating their own! Caviar pearls can also be matched to any colour theme you have for your event to give a much more personalised feel.  We are able to serve our caviar in many ways including ramekins, serving spoons, shot glasses or even inside hollowed-out fruit!

Foams and Airs
We are able to transform any flavour you throw at us into a delicious foam. These foams can be used as a creamy layer on top of drinks, such as a Rosewater Clover Club. They are also great when served as a ‘dip’ for fruits or when matched up with some of our pearls. Our favourite use of this technique is using sea salt which floats  on top of a margarita!

Jellies
Our process of making jellies is not like you make it at home! We use a special ingredient to set our cocktail flavoured jellies in any shape you wish.

Instant Ice Creams
Some of our favourite flavours include:

  • Rum and Raisin
  • White Russian – vodka, cream and coffee
  • Pina Colada – rum, cream, pineapple and coconut
  • Mango and Chilli
  • Mint Julep – bourbon, mint and lime
Depending on the effect you wish to have at your event we can create our instant ice creams using either frozen CO2 or a fire extinguisher!!

What does it cost?

Prices vary dependent on size, location, timings and exactly the service required.

To discuss your event, please call us on 020 8241 4265 for further availability and pricing.

                                                      MOLECUBOX

Our specialist molecular 'professors' here at Hire The Barman love coming up with original, eye catching molecular creations using weird and wonderful ingredients.

The latest concept from our team is Molecubox.

What is Molecubox?

Every Moleculox contain three original molecular cocktails, designed entirely around your requirements.

When you order your Molecubox, we will discuss with you things such as:

  • what spirits you like
  • your favourite cocktails
  • flavours that you like (and don't like)
  • the demographic of your guests
  • the theme of the event

Our professors will then take this information to our lab and, based on these details, create a box of innovative and excting molecular cocktails for you.

Your Molecubox will be delivered to you in one of our specially constructed boxes, designed to ensure that you receive the contents in perfect condition.

What sort of thing can I expect in my Molecubox?

Examples of recent molecular cocktails in a Molecubox include:

  • margarita spaghetti (pictured below)
  • mojito Rolos (pictured below)
  • caramised apple slices with a cinnamon whisky foam
  • Sambuca candyfloss
  • pina colada rice crispies

Due to the unstable nature of deconstructed cocktails, we cannot guarantee that we can use specific molecular techniques on every occasion so cannot promise any requests. For the best results, our professors need as much flexibility as possible in the creative process - it's all about the surprise of what's going to be in your Molecubox!

What is the right occasion for a Molecubox?

Our Molecubox concept provides an entirely new and innovative serve which is sure to 'wow' anyone who experiences it.

It's the perfect choice:

  • as an addition to a canape or dessert service
  • to serve alongside a drinks reception
  • to add impact and stand-out
  • as a memorable gift to a client
  • as a show-stopper at an event

Please note that a Molecubox should be used as an addition, not as a replacement for food or drink.

How much does a Molecubox cost?

Molecuboxes start from £20 (ex. VAT). Due to the bespoke nature of each box, please call us to discuss more accurate pricing for your requirement.

Our minimum order size of 10 Molecuboxes per brief.

What notice do you need to create a Molecubox?

We can create your Molecubox with as little notice as 96 hours, dependent on compexities and volumes required. All of our cocktails are hand-created in our 'experience lab' in South London.

                                  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are answers to some of the questions we are most often asked.....

WHAT IS MOLECULAR MIXOLOGY?

Molecular mixology refers to a modern style of creating cocktails, which takes advantage of innovations from the scientific discipline. It uses the techniques within molecular gastronomy and applies them to drink.

I HAVE HEARD THAT MOLECULAR MIXOLOGY IS ALL ABOUT CHEMICALS AND SYNTHETIC FLAVOURS. IS THAT TRUE? ARE MOLECULAR COCKTAILS SAFE?

Yes, molecular cocktails are completely safe. As for the 'chemicals' you heard about, the truth is the ingredients used they have been a part of our food and culinary tradition for centuries now, as every time you cook something, you use chemistry. Molecular mixology is just taking the chemistry of cocktails a step further - mostly to play with textures, looks and taste. There was a recent case of a girl suffering injury from ingestion of liquid nitrogen - this is a product only used by trained members of our team and very rarely.

HOW LONG DO MOLECULAR COCKTAILS TAKE TO CREATE?

The time it takes to create molecular cocktails varies depending on the techniques involved. For example, jellies and spherification need a a few hours to prepare whereas foams and airs can be made almost instantly.

ARE THE TECHNIQUES INVOLVED DANGEROUS?

Certain molecular techniques can be very dangerous. The use of dry ice and liquid nitrogen can cause severe burns if not used properly. Hire The Barman take every possible care when using dangerous ingredients to ensure the utmost safety of both the guests and staff at all times.

ARE THERE ANY ALLERGENS / TRACES OF ALLERGENS IN THE PRODUCTS YOU USE?

Unfortunately, Hire The Barman cannot guarantee that any of our ingredients, nor creations, are allergen-free.

ARE THE PRODUCTS VEGETARIAN / VEGAN?

To the very best of our knowledge (and we like to say we know our stuff), all of our products are vegetarian/vegan.

DO MOLECULAR COCKTAILS CONTAIN ALCOHOL / NEED TO BE USED WITH ALCOHOL?

None of our moleclar ingredients contains alcohol, but, as suggested by its name, deconstructed cocktails are meant to replicate all sorts of alcoholic drinks. However, if you can not/will not consume alcohol, we are able to design and create a bespoke non-alcoholic menu for you.
